Game Overview
FISA is a 2D physics-based multiplayer sports game & twin-stick shooter in which players compete against each other in intense soccer matches and space combat. The ultimate goal: become the reigning intergalactic Spaceball champions.
Design Process
Inspiration
The goal when designing FISA was to create a game that was somewhat comical, but could also be highly competitive. The original concept was heavily inspired by Rocket League, but from there I took steps to set the game apart.

Simple Combat Mechanics
In addition to its unique space theme and setting, it also utilizes twin-stick shooter mechanics and ammo drops to allow the players to destroy each other while trying to score goals. I wanted this mechanic to be something that was easy to learn and simple to perform, as the main focus of the game was still to get the ball into the opponents' goal. The goal was to keep the game consistently tense and fast-paced without over complicating it. |
Unpredictable Gameplay
While there is definitely skill involved in this game and players do get better over time, I wanted much of the gameplay to be unpredictable. The combat mechanics contribute towards this goal by allowing players to turn the tide of the game at any point. Additionally, with the ball being in the shape of a meteor and in zero gravity, the physics are not always predictable and players must sometimes react quickly to unexpected situations. |
